چکیده

We present a formulation for achieving “as rigid as possible” deformations of 3D models using a Moving Least Squares (MLS) approach. This research was inspired by the work of Schaefer et al.[25] which describes an approach solving a 2D version of the same problem. Our main contribution is showing how the problem may be efficiently handled in 3D for both point and line segment constraints. Our prototype implementation is capable of performing close to real-time deformations of models with a few thousand vertices.

Matching 3D Shapes Using 2D Conformal Representations

Matching 3D shapes is a fundamental problem in Medical Imaging with many applications including, but not limited to, shape deformation analysis, tracking etc. Matching 3D shapes poses a computationally challenging task. The problem is especially hard when the transformation sought is diffeomorphic and non-rigid between the shapes being matched. In this paper, we propose a novel and computationa...

Non-rigid Structure from Motion using Quadratic Deformation Models

Reconstructing a 3D deformable surface from a set of 2D correspondences across an image sequence is the problem known as Non-Rigid Structure from Motion (NRSfM). In this scenario, it is usually assumed that the 3D deformable shape can be represented by a combination of rigid basis shapes with time varying coefficients. Due to its simplicity, linear basis shape models have provided good reconstr...

Applicability of Non-Rigid Medical Image Registration using Moving Least Squares

A drawback of the non-rigid registration is its unpredictable nature of the deformation on the target image. Mapping every point on images can cause deformations even to regions, which are expected to remain rigid. A non-rigid registration is desirable that produces only local deformations where needed, while still preserving the overall rigidity. This work focuses on one such method called the...

Non-rigid 3D Factorization for Projective Reconstruction

In this paper we address the problem of projective reconstruction for deformable objects. Recent work in non-rigid factorization has proved that it is possible to model deformations as a linear combination of basis shapes, allowing the recovery of camera motion and 3D shape under weak perspective viewing conditions. However, the performance of these methods degrades when the object of interest ...

Generalized Metric Energies for Continuous Shape Deformation

High quality deformations of planar and volumetric domains are central to many computer graphics related problems like modeling, character animation, and non-rigid registration. Besides common “asrigid-as-possible” approaches the class of nearly-isometric deformations is highly relevant to solve this kind of problems. Recent continuous deformation approaches try to find planar first order nearl...
